World Glacier Biology Program

Glacier ice worms (Mesenchytraeus solifugus) live in and on freshwater glaciers of the Pacific Northwest of North America.  This photo (above) illustrates typical densities on the glacier surface during evening hours.  It was taken on Williwakas Glacier, Mount Rainier, Washington, 2004.
